2006 Shingletown Star Party
The Shingletown Community Center and The Astronomy Connection of Northern California are
pleased to announce the 5th Annual Shingletown Star Party, starting Wednesday, June 21st
through Monday, June 26th. The event will take place at the Shingletown Airport, with
public festivities and telescope viewing scheduled for Saturday June 24th, beginning at
5:00 pm.
The public is invited to learn about astronomy, visit with numerous astronomy vendors
(who are invited at no additional charge beyond admission), and chat with hundreds of
amateur astronomers who will be camped out for the event. That same night, everyone is
invited to stay for an evening under the stars. Guests will be able to look through a
mind-boggling variety of astronomical telescopes, and see galaxies, planets and nebulae,
distinctly visible under Shasta County's dark skies. The Saturday event will also
include music, food, raffle, and a guest speaker. People of all ages are encouraged to
attend.
During the rest of the week, registered attendees from all over the world will gather at
the Shingletown Airport to meet with one another and quietly pursue their hobby. The
Shingletown airport is located 5 miles east of Shingletown on Highway 44, just 17 miles
west of the Lassen Park entrance.
Since its first year, the AANC has been a supporter of this event. We consider the AANC
a co-sponsor, have included its logo on our web site, and maintain an open invitation at
SSP for any AANC literature, announcements, or suggestions.
Once again, we ask for AANC’s financial support for the public portion of our event.
Some of the additional costs we are incurring this year are significant increased
expenditures for dust control, electricity for coffee and refreshments, and materials
for placing cones and painting safety lanes on the runway. Any contribution from the
AANC would be greatly appreciated.
